The Rhino That Became a Unicorn

What If Your Biggest Dream Isn't as Impossible as It Seems?

Faith is a little rhino with a very big dream.

She wants to become a unicorn.

But reaching that dream means climbing Magic Mountain, ignoring a few noisy monkeys, learning from a setback, asking for help, finding her courage, and discovering just how much she is capable of.

A warm, imaginative story about dreams, resilience, courage, and learning to believe in yourself.

A dream becomes a journey when Faith decides to take the first step.

Meet Faith

Small Rhino. Big Dream.

Faith is a happy little rhino who dreams of doing something no one expects.

She wants to become a unicorn.

When she learns that anyone who reaches the top of Magic Mountain is granted one wish, Faith knows exactly what she wants to do.

Her dad encourages her to take that dream seriously.

So Faith writes it down.

She makes it a goal.

And then she starts climbing.

Because sometimes a big adventure begins with simply believing something might be possible.

When Other Voices Get Loud

Every Big Dream Meets a Few Monkeys.

The moment Faith shares her dream, the monkeys laugh.

They tell her becoming a unicorn is impossible.

They tell her a little rhino could never climb Magic Mountain.

And for a moment, their words hurt.

Faith's dad reminds her that she has something the monkeys don't.

Thick skin.

But the lesson is about more than a rhino's skin.

It is about learning that other people's words do not get to decide what you are capable of.

You don't have to let someone else's doubt become your belief.

Try. Learn. Try Again.

Failure Doesn't Have to Be the End of the Story.

Faith starts climbing Magic Mountain.

She tries.

She gets tired.

And she turns around.

When she reaches her dad, Faith says:

“I failed.”

“Now, what can you learn from your mistake?”

That question changes what happens next.

Instead of treating the setback as proof that she cannot reach her dream, Faith thinks about what went wrong.

She realizes she needs more endurance.

And she asks for help.

The first attempt doesn't have to be the final answer.

Strong Doesn't Mean Alone

Believing in Yourself Doesn't Mean Doing Everything by Yourself.

01

Ask

Faith finds her friend Angie the Gazelle and tells her what happened. Angie helps Faith train.

02

Grow

With practice, determination, and support, Faith becomes stronger and more confident. Then Faith tries again.

03

Help

Later on the mountain, Faith stops to help Dominik, a mountain goat trapped beneath a rock. Dominik helps Faith in return by showing her a shortcut.

Sometimes we need help.

Sometimes we give help.

Both can move us forward.

Courage on Magic Mountain

Being Brave Doesn't Mean Nothing Feels Scary.

Faith, a small rhino, stands her ground on a golden mountain path as three mountain lions block the way, with the glowing peak of Magic Mountain in the distance
From The Rhino That Became a Unicorn

Faith's journey eventually brings her face to face with another challenge.

Three mountain lions stand between her and the path forward.

Faith has to decide what to do.

She gathers her courage.

She stands her ground.

And she keeps moving.

Children do not need to face mountain lions to understand that feeling.

Sometimes courage looks like trying again.

Sometimes it means asking for help.

Sometimes it means doing something difficult even when you are unsure how it will turn out.

Courage is what helps us take the next step.

Inside the Story

A Magical Adventure With Ideas That Travel Beyond the Book.

Faith's journey gives children a playful way to explore ideas they are already beginning to encounter in their own lives.

  1. 01

    Dream

Big possibilities often begin when we allow ourselves to imagine them.

  2. 02

    Believe

Other people do not get to decide what is possible for you.

  3. 03

    Learn

A setback can teach you something about what to try next.

  4. 04

    Ask

Getting help can be part of becoming stronger.

  5. 05

    Help

Your journey can include helping someone else along the way.

  6. 06

    Courage

Bravery can begin with taking one more step.

More Than a Unicorn Story

The Dream Is Magical. The Discovery Is Personal.

Faith begins her journey wanting to become something extraordinary.

But getting to Magic Mountain asks more of her than making a wish.

She has to believe in herself when others laugh.

She has to learn when her first attempt doesn't work.

She has to accept help.

She has to help someone else.

She has to find courage when the path becomes frightening.

And step by step, Faith begins discovering qualities that were already there.

Extraordinary isn't something you become. It's something you uncover.

That idea sits at the heart of Dr. Rod Inspires.

For Grown Ups Who Read Along

A Story Can Keep Going After the Last Page.

The Rhino That Became a Unicorn gives parents, teachers, mentors, and other caring adults natural opportunities to continue the conversation.

You don't need a formal leadership lesson.

Sometimes one good question is enough.

  • “What is a big dream you have?”
  • “What would you tell Faith when the monkeys laugh at her?”
  • “What can we learn when something doesn't work the first time?”
  • “Who is someone you can ask for help?”
  • “When have you helped someone else?”
  • “What does courage look like for you?”

The goal isn't to find the perfect answer.

It's to help children begin thinking about who they are, what they believe, and how they respond when something feels difficult.

Why Dr. Rod Wrote It

Leadership Lessons Can Begin Earlier Than We Think.

Dr. Rod believes young people begin learning about leadership long before anyone gives them a title.

For younger children, those lessons often begin with simple experiences.

  • Trying something difficult.
  • Learning what to do when someone says you can't.
  • Making a mistake.
  • Asking for help.
  • Helping someone else.
  • Choosing to try again.

The Rhino That Became a Unicorn turns those moments into a story children can understand, remember, and talk about with the adults in their lives.

The goal isn't to turn a five-year-old into a miniature adult.

It's to give children language for confidence, character, resilience, courage, and the choices they are already beginning to make.

Leadership begins with learning to lead yourself.
