Meet Dr. Rod
For Dr. Rod, leadership begins with something much more personal than a position or a title. It begins with knowing who you are, how you respond when life gets difficult, how you treat other people, and the choices you make when no one is watching.
That belief has shaped a journey through healthcare, education, mentoring, writing, and more than two decades of helping people recognize what they are capable of.

The Journey
Dr. Rod’s path to youth leadership was not a straight line.
Long before he became an author and mentor, Dr. Rod learned firsthand that growth often begins with challenge. Living with dyslexia meant learning differently, persevering when things were difficult, and refusing to let a limitation define what was possible. He went on to earn his doctorate and begin a career as a chiropractor in 1999.
For more than two decades, Dr. Rod has worked in healthcare, helping people navigate challenges, move beyond limitations, and recognize what they are capable of. Today, he continues that work as a designated doctor in the Texas workers’ compensation system.

Alongside his work in healthcare, another calling continued to shape his life. Education.
Dr. Rod has spent more than twelve years as an educator and continues teaching today. Working directly with students has given him a front row seat to how early the beliefs young people form about themselves can influence the choices they make.
In the classroom, he saw something important.
Young people do not need to wait until adulthood to begin learning leadership.
They are already making choices about character, confidence, friendships, responsibility, resilience, empathy, attitude, and influence.
Those choices are leadership.
Today, these different parts of Dr. Rod’s life continue to shape one another.
Together, these experiences come to life through Dr. Rod Inspires.
Where It Started
Long before Dr. Rod taught leadership, he saw it modeled through everyday choices.
One of the strongest influences in his life was his father’s example of integrity. It reinforced an idea that would eventually become central to Dr. Rod’s own philosophy.
Leadership is not primarily about recognition. It is about character.
It is what you do when no one is applauding, how you treat people who cannot do anything for you, and whether your choices reflect the person you say you want to become.
Those lessons now sit at the heart of the stories, conversations, programs, and experiences Dr. Rod creates for young people.
“Leadership begins with the choices we make when no one is watching.”
Why This Work Matters
It is already being shaped by the choices they make today.
Young people are constantly deciding who they are becoming.
They are learning how to respond to failure. Whose opinions deserve their attention. What kind of friend they want to be. Whether they will follow the crowd or their values. How they handle responsibility. Whether they believe they are capable of more.
Dr. Rod believes these everyday moments are where leadership begins.
That is why his work starts early.
Through stories for young children, leadership experiences for teens, resources for the adults who guide them, and conversations that continue beyond the classroom, Dr. Rod helps young people recognize that leadership is not reserved for the loudest person in the room. It begins with learning to lead yourself.
Every child has a leader within.
The goal is not to create that leader.
The goal is to help them discover it.
The Foundation
Dr. Rod’s work is grounded in five ideas that help young people move from simply thinking about leadership to practicing it in everyday life.
Know who you are.
Confidence grows when young people understand their values, strengths, identity, and the qualities that make them uniquely themselves.
Choose who you want to become.
Integrity, empathy, attitude, responsibility, and the choices made when no one is watching shape the way we lead ourselves and others.
Learn from every challenge.
Failure, setbacks, uncertainty, and difficult experiences can become opportunities to learn, adapt, and become stronger.
Recognize your influence.
Leadership begins long before a title arrives. Every choice has the potential to influence the people and world around us.
Use what you have to help others.
Great leadership extends beyond personal success. It creates value, opportunity, encouragement, and possibility for other people.
Dr. Rod Inspires exists to help young people discover the confidence, character, courage, and leadership already within them.
Dr. Rod Inspires
Young people grow through different experiences at different stages of life. Dr. Rod Inspires brings the same leadership philosophy to each of those moments through stories, encouragement, programs, resources, and live experiences.

The Work Continues
A book can begin a conversation.
A teacher can reinforce it.
A parent can carry it home.
A mentor can challenge a young person to see something in themselves they may not have recognized before. And sometimes, one meaningful idea delivered at the right moment can help a young person see what’s possible.
That is the work behind Dr. Rod Inspires.
